.mcpack vs .mcaddon vs .mcworld
Minecraft Bedrock hands you three file types when you share content. They sound similar but do different jobs. Here's each one in plain English — and when to reach for it.
A single pack — a behavior pack, resource pack, or skin pack — zipped into one file. This is the everyday format.
- Contains
- One pack folder (manifest + its files).
- Use it for
- Sharing or installing a single pack. This is MiniBench’s default export.
A bundle of multiple packs in one file — most often a behavior pack plus its matching resource pack, installed together in one tap.
- Contains
- Multiple .mcpack files bundled together.
- Use it for
- Distributing an add-on where the behavior and resource packs belong together.
A complete Minecraft world with packs already embedded and activated — open it and everything is switched on, no setup.
- Contains
- A world save + its packs, pre-activated.
- Use it for
- Handing someone a ready-to-play experience (a map, minigame, or demo).
Which should I use?
- · Making one function or behavior pack? → .mcpack (the default).
- · Shipping a behavior pack and a resource pack together? → .mcaddon.
- · Want it live the moment someone opens it, no activation step? → .mcworld.
In MiniBench, .mcpack is the default export; .mcworld export is a Pro option. All three install by tapping the file and choosing Open in Minecraft.
