Behavior pack vs resource pack

Minecraft Bedrock splits customization in two: one pack changes how things behave, the other changes how things look. Knowing which is which saves a lot of confusion.

Behavior pack

How things work

The logic and rules of the game. It's applied to a world.

  • · Functions (.mcfunction) and tick.json
  • · Entity behavior, loot tables, recipes, spawn rules
  • · Trading, dialogue, world-gen features
  • · Script API (.js)

Resource pack

How things look & sound

The presentation layer. It can be applied per-world or globally.

  • · Textures and 3D models
  • · Animations and particles
  • · Sounds and music
  • · UI, fonts, and render controllers

How they work together

Many add-ons ship both: a behavior pack adds a new mob's logic, and a matching resource pack gives it a texture and model. They're linked by listing the resource pack's UUID in the behavior pack's dependencies, and distributed together as an .mcaddon. A behavior pack that expects a resource pack won't look right without it.

Which does MiniBench make?

MiniBench v1 focuses on behavior packs built around .mcfunction files — the commands that build, spawn, and drive things in your world. Export a .mcpack and activate it under Behavior Packs in Minecraft.
