The /ride command
Put a player on a mount, stack mobs, or start and stop riding — from a command.
What it does
/ride controls who rides what. Seat a player on a horse, stack a skeleton on a spider, or summon a ride under someone — handy for cutscenes, mounts, and creative contraptions.
Syntax
ride <riders> start_riding <ride> [teleportRules] [fillType] ride <riders> stop_riding ride <riders> summon_ride <entityType> - riders
- Who does the riding — @s, @p, or a selector.
- start_riding <ride>
- The entity to ride (must already exist and be nearby).
- summon_ride <entityType>
- Spawn a fresh mount under the rider in one step.
Examples
ride @s summon_ride minecraft:horse Spawn a horse and hop on it.
ride @s stop_riding Dismount.
ride @e[type=skeleton,c=1] summon_ride minecraft:spider Make a spider jockey.
Watch out for
- · summon_ride is the easy path — it creates the mount for you.
- · For start_riding, the ride entity has to already exist near the rider.
- · Some entities aren’t rideable; results vary by mob.
Write it in MiniBench with autocomplete and live validation, then run it in Minecraft.
